Artist’s Statement
I’m a Charlotte-based fiber artist creating narrative art quilts that explore scenes of African American life, culture, and memory.
After a career in corporate marketing and nonprofit leadership, I returned to a long-standing interest in art and developed a studio practice centered on what I describe as “pictures with fabric.” Using batik textiles, raw-edge appliqué, and both machine and hand stitching, I create layered works that are evolving from illustration toward dimensional textile relief.
My process is concept driven. I begin with a narrative idea and develop it through written prompts and visual exploration. Recently, I’ve incorporated AI as part of my ideation process—using it to generate multiple compositional studies of a single concept. I then refine and synthesize those explorations into a final vision, which I translate into a fully realized textile piece.
Each work is thoughtfully designed and constructed in my studio using a combination of machine and hand techniques, reflecting both contemporary exploration and a deep respect for the traditions of quilt making.
I’m currently focused on series-based work and opportunities to engage with collectors, galleries, and institutions and welcome inquiries regarding private commissions, corporate collections, and exhibition opportunities.
