Seated on a golden throne, the woman in Purple Reign meets the world with quiet confidence. Purple, blue, and gold fabrics surround her, while her gown, headwrap, and jewelry give the portrait its richness and presence. I created this work as a celebration of African American womanhood, dignity, and the power of seeing ourselves represented as royalty.
